The Friends of Citizens Advice Tunbridge Wells & District, usually called the 'Friends', is an independent charity (registered charity no.1001830) devoted to raising funds and developing awareness of the Tunbridge Wells and District Citizens Advice. The Friends work as a fundraising committee, to arrange enjoyable events which also help to raise awareness of the vital work carried out 'on the ground' by all of the volunteers and paid staff at the bureau.
Tunbridge Wells and District Citizens Advice operates advice centres in Tunbridge Wells and Cranbrook, holds outreach surgeries in Pembury, Sherwood, Southborough and Showfields, and also provides home visits for the elderly and those with with disabilities. Each year Tunbridge Wells and District Citizens Advice helps over 6,000 people deal with more than 20,000 issues, and has been established in the area for over 80 years. Advice is given by trained experienced volunteers, backed up by fully qualified paid staff.
Many people are not aware that Citizens Advice itself is a charity. Local Citizens Advice around the UK are not fully funded by either local or central government.
